I could certainly say that God answered prayers for my husband and me in our cancer journeys. Jim was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006 and went through several surgeries. I was diagnosed in 2007 with NHL (non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) and began treatments in 2014 (it is a slow growing cancer). During that time, I had the opportunity to speak at Amport House, at that time the headquarters of the Armed Forces’ chaplains, about my journey with cancer to a group of women from the Armed Forces’ Christian Union.
I likened it to military spouses who go through deployments; they are unexpected, can be difficult to endure, the end result isn’t always known (fear of the future) and relying on God daily through the journey (of both cancer and deployments).
God has seen both Jim and me through our “valleys” and has remained faithful and steadfast when we have felt uncertain in our hearts.
This month (May 2022) I have been going through a series of tests to make sure my lymphoma hasn’t returned. I can share with great joy that my cancer hasn’t reared its ugly head again and the tests came out clear!
God has been and remains our ROCK and we are so grateful for AFCU and our time together with everyone at Amport those many years ago!
