This week, we hear from an AFCU member who is a military spouse. She shares the support she has received from the AFCU and why she believes it is so important for everyone to know that AFCU is not just for the serving member in the family.
‘My husband is in the Royal Logistics, and we are both members of the AFCU, not just my husband but me too. This is because AFCU supports the whole family, not just the serving member.
The AFCU has been crucial to me, especially since getting married and becoming a military spouse, in providing community and support. We have an amazing prayer support team who faithfully pray for both of us. The prayer support team is available to both of us at any time; I know I can pop on with any requests, and there is a whole wider team who are supporting and praying for us.
What I also love about AFCU is meeting up with different AFCU members at a wide range of events throughout the year. People of all ages and stages, from different backgrounds, but all Christians with a connection to the military, united in Christ.
Both my husband and I are involved in YAFCU – a group for younger AFCU members in their 20s and 30s – we are both part of the Issachar leadership programme and are leaders at Summer Camp. So there’s a whole wide range of things we can get involved in that help us in our personal faith and in being part of what God is doing in and throughout the military as well.
For anyone who is the spouse of a serving member or any serving member whose spouse isn’t a member of AFCU or hasn’t yet been to any AFCU events, I would say that AFCU is for you too. AFCU is for the whole family! Sometimes it might actually be more crucial for the family and those at home than for the person serving, as they have so much to do. Those at home can struggle with isolation and loneliness. Often, when the serving member goes away, you need support most, and people around you and AFCU provide it. Having that support and that community is brilliant; there is so much for everyone to get involved in, and it has definitely had such a big impact on my life. AFCU is not just for the serving member of the family.
I’m so thankful for the AFCU and for how they look after the whole family and provide that essential support and encouragement. I am so grateful to be part of the AFCU, following in the footsteps of so many people who have been part of the AFCU family, supporting and walking alongside one another for many years. Together united in Christ.
It has been incredible hearing the stories of the past and the present of how God has worked through AFCU to provide the right word, the right moment, the right prayer just when people need it most. I’ve seen that impact in my own life and the life of so many others. I’m so thankful to God for that.
It would be wonderful to have more military spouses join the AFCU, so we can support and care for one another as we journey through life together. As I said, AFCU is for the whole family!’
As our member said, ‘AFCU is for the whole family!’ AFCU is a home for military Christians, including all those connected to the military: spouses, children, parents, and other family members. If you are receiving this email but have never connected with the AFCU, because you thought you couldn’t, because you weren’t the serving member of the family, please change this today.
Please reach out to us so we can support you, pray for you, and connect you with other Christians in similar situations. Contact the AFCU office: office@afcu.org.uk
Or, if you are the serving member but your spouse or a close family member has never joined the AFCU, please do send them this email. Please echo the words from our AFCU member above, ‘AFCU supports the whole family, not just the serving member.’
Encourage them to join today by signing up on our website, or by contacting the AFCU office: office@afcu.org.ukThe AFCU is a family of Christians in and connected to the military, united by our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, who walk together in the highs and lows of life and point one another to Jesus.
