Life is busy; it can often feel like one thing after another. On top of day-to-day life commitments, you are invited to additional events from the organisations and groups you are part of, but we can rarely go to them all.
We need to decide what we attend and what we don’t.
Often, factors such as travel time and event duration play a part in our decision-making. Familiarity and unfamiliarity can also influence our decisions.
In this email, we want to share why familiarity and unfamiliarity should not be a barrier to attending AFCU’s vision evening this coming Thursday, 29th October, at 7:30pm on Zoom.
Familiarity
If you have been part of an organisation like AFCU for many years, it is easy to think you know everything there is to know about it. Especially if you’ve previously attended an event such as AFCU’s vision evening, you may think, ‘I’ve been to this sort of event before; I don’t need to attend this year.’
If this thought is on your mind, we would encourage you to reconsider. Even if you attended in past years, we would love for you to join us for this year’s AFCU Vision Evening.
We want to praise and thank God for how He has been at work in and through the AFCU over the past year. It is easy to pray for situations and events, but once they happen, we can quickly stop and not give God praise and thanks for how He has been at work and for answering our prayers. So together we want to praise and thank God for His goodness and faithfulness to us.
“Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness.” Psalm 115:1.
You might be well versed in what the AFCU does and the events that run throughout the year. But do you know how God has worked at these events, or how He has spoken into people’s lives? On Thursday evening, we want to share with you some of the amazing ways the Lord has been at work in the past year. We will hear stories and testimonies from different AFCU members who will share with you how the Lord was at work in a particular situation or event. We often pray regularly before events, but we don’t always hear about the ways God has been at work. This is your opportunity to hear how God has been at work in and through the AFCU.
“Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.” Psalm 66:5.
You may have been an AFCU member for many years, attended many AFCU Vision evenings, and be very familiar with what we do. Please don’t let this familiarity stop you from attending on Thursday evening as we hear of the Lord’s work in and through the AFCU and praise and thank Him for His faithfulness and goodness.
Unfamiliarity
At the other end of the scale is unfamiliarity, which could prevent you from attending AFCU’s Vision Evening. You may have been an AFCU member for some time now, but you haven’t yet engaged with any AFCU events or communications. You may think it’s gone on too long to engage now. It’s not too late.
We are so thankful that the Lord has brought you into the AFCU family. He has led and guided you to the AFCU family for a reason. It might be through this Vision Evening that the Lord shows you why he led you to AFCU.
The AFCU is a home for Military Christians and is all about belonging. The AFCU is a community that believes in the power of the Gospel and the power of prayer, cares deeply for people, and longs to see lives changed. We are here to support one another through every season of life. So come along and hear how the AFCU can walk alongside you and support you. You are not on your own.
This also applies if you recently joined the AFCU and are still unfamiliar with what we do; this is the perfect opportunity to see how you are part of the AFCU family.
You may be unfamiliar with the AFCU right now, but after Thursday’s Vision Evening, we pray you will feel truly part of the AFCU family.
Whether you are familiar or unfamiliar with the work of AFCU, this event is for YOU, and we hope to see you on Thursday evening as we share about the past year and look to the future.
This is also a great opportunity for your friends and family to learn about AFCU, so please share the invitation widely. Sign up here.
