My adult life has been punctuated (though at long intervals!) by four or five episodes of stress-related depression, some lasting several months. I have gradually learned how to tackle the onset of these stress-related attacks as a disciplined soldier, understanding their true source as a spiritual attack, needing a spiritual response.
There is much useful scripture which would support that view. During the most recent episode, I prayed that God would stand alongside me, to help me stand firm and win the spiritual battle. I found that drawing on God’s Word and seeing this episode as mainly spirit-related, rather than a medical/mental health issue, was very helpful for me and removed much of the fear element.
Through prayer and Scripture, God gave me clear insight as to exactly how to fight and what to fight each day. The episode was over within a week, giving me increasing confidence in my ongoing belief that many such episodes are principally spiritual resilience challenges rather than mental health crises.
