A Mum is a Mum whether a precious babe in arms or your son is long grown and in their forties, but their problems and suffering is just as much a concern.
Our son has had longstanding battles with ill health. I have prayed, I prayed a lot! This has been going on for 10 years. We have gone down the medical route, even to Harley Street. He has been given a diagnosis of post viral fatigue syndrome. No clear treatment, except management and supplements.
Several years ago he was given a verse by a friend which said:-
‘The God of all glory, Who has called you into His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast’ (1 Peter 5:10).
That verse is now printed, laminated and stuck on the fridge and has been there for years! I love it that God ‘Himself’ will do it, and that the outcome is that our son will be ‘strong, firm and steadfast’. Sometimes I am reminded of the biblical persistent widow, hammering on the door, constantly reminding God of His promise, not that God is reluctant, God is always good, and wants the best for His children, but Lord, 10 years is a LONG time!
Time went on, with small improvements over a long period of time, our son battled on with infections, fatigue, headaches, aches and pains, and spending a lot of time in bed.
Now 10 years down the road, things are improving. At last, after 2 years unable to work, he now has some employment and hasn’t missed a day’s work over the last few months.
My prayers are being answered, our son WILL be strong and resilient again, we are on the way! I am not giving up praying. God cannot fail. Only I can fail in not holding fast thanking God and continuing to pray.
We are not there yet, but hallelujah anyway!
