I left the Christian Vision for Men (CVM) weekend conference in the Coventry area tired out. This was 100 miles from home and before Satnavs.
On a deserted country road, I drove across a bridge over a motorway but could not even tell which motorway it was! I quickly realised I was lost and stopped in a cul-de-sac and belatedly looked at my map.
After an arrow prayer for help, I spotted a solitary man standing in the rain, so I asked him the way. He then walked 100yds, in the rain, used a swipe card at a barrier at the end of the cul de sac and directed me through this non-public right of way not only onto the correct motorway but travelling in the right direction for home.
The junction is not even shown on maps. One minute I was lost and the next driving confidently on the M6 and reflecting on the recent Christian conference.
I thought then that prayers often seem more powerful after intense Christian periods. The magnitude of this unexpected help shows the Lord’s love for us. I wonder if the solitary man knew he was being used by God.
