The Armed Forces Christian Union (AFCU) are delighted to announce that we have received a grant award from The Veterans’ Foundation.
For the second year in a row, the Veterans’ Foundation is very kindly contributing to some AFCU activities, including our summer events.
The summer events that the Veterans’ Foundation is generously supporting AFCU’s village at New Wine 2026 and AFCU Summer Camp 2026.
AFCU’s village at New Wine is a way in which AFCU supports its members as they attend New Wine, a week-long Christian festival at the Bath and West Showground. The AFCU village allows AFCU members a space for rest, reflection, and connection with others who understand the unique pressures of military life.
AFCU Summer Camp 2026, which began in 1926, is a place for 11- to 18-year-olds to come together for an exciting, full-board, 6-day holiday camp. AFCU summer camp is for young people connected to the Armed Forces and their friends to come together to have fun, encourage one another and hear the Gospel.
In addition to the summer events the Veterans’ Foundation supports, our Veterans in Custody ministry (VICs) is also supported. This ministry is run entirely by volunteers, who are themselves veterans, and supports a small number (currently about 20) of veterans who are currently serving prison sentences or who are now prison leavers, offering them support and encouragement and helping them re-engage with ‘normal’ life. AFCU seeks to support these individuals in prayer and encourage them on their Christian journey.
The Veterans’ Foundation is one of the country’s leading military charities. It was set up in 2016 to raise funds to help charities provide vital support to our armed forces’ community. These include those serving, veterans and their families with a range of needs, including mental health, physical therapy and rehabilitation, homelessness and education and training. Since 2016, the Foundation has awarded more than £40 million and awarded over 1,550 grants to more than 600 charitable organisations that deliver life-changing projects across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
