For years I have made large banners to be hung in our local church, in Hazlemere, High Wycombe. I used to change them regularly, make new ones from time to time and hopefully they were an inspiration and blessing to those who saw them. We ended up with more than 20 large banners kept in the gallery of the church.
Then came Covid! God’s timing was amazing. At the same time as the first lockdown, the church was being stripped of all contents in preparation for a major rebuild/refurbishment and everything being kept was put into storage. As a result, the banners were stored in an attic. Church went ‘online’.
Time goes on, our wonderful new church is light, bright, and welcoming and with a new Atrium Cafe, far more fitting for today’s world. Gallery gone, there is no place either to display or hang the banners. The new look is sleek, modern, and uncluttered.
After advertising the banners to the church ‘online’, it was decided to have a ‘Banner Day‘ yesterday, where they were laid out on the floor of the church for people to see. I really prayed that the banners would have a second life, be used displayed and enjoyed, and not have to be destroyed.
Amazingly, all but 2 of the 21 banners are going to a second home, either to individuals, churches or schools. That to me was a great blessing. They will be spread, seen, and enjoyed – a second life indeed. Thank you, Lord!
