Several years ago, at my husband’s Army medical facility, a situation developed that required sensitive prayer. It had escalated to the point that my newly posted-in husband, who was both an experienced and senior clinician, and his team could not cope with the workload due to increasing numbers of troops requiring help, not enough staff and insufficient consulting rooms. The military staff that were in post before he arrived had all been off with stress and illness, plus several of the experienced civilians had left due to lack of support. So, it was a horrid situation to be posted into, but he remained prayerfully positive and got on with the job in hand.
My husband had two roles at that time, one of which involved lots of meetings, travel and ‘fast balls’ which impacted on his other job as a clinician. One day, three months after his father had died, he was called in for a meeting and was put on a disciplinary measure by an administrator with little clinical understanding, because he had not been seeing enough patients.
My husband was devastated, as you can imagine; he spent that night sitting up reading his Bible as he was unable to sleep. He left for the long commute to work the following morning to face the fall out. He was told by the administrator that he had three months to ‘put things right’. The situation seemed hopeless in human terms and all he could do was to ask for prayer.
Two months’ later, the situation was still rumbling on but there had been significant answers to prayer, praise God. The disciplinary action brought against my husband just fizzled out! Plus, his boss who actioned the disciplinary procedure decided to retire, and their replacement was a clinician with more understanding of the medical challenges involved!
So, I just want to thank people for lifting my husband up in prayer and to proclaim that our God is amazing in the way he stepped into a seemingly impossible situation. Thank you, Lord.
