“Everybody fits in the AFCU!”

The thoughts of an AFCU member.
“Everybody fits in the AFCU!”

This week, we hear from an AFCU member who shares how they came to faith, how AFCU has supported them, and the importance of their Prayer Support Team.

“I came to faith while I was serving. I found faith during my tour of Afghanistan. We had a really hard and unfortunate day, where on my birthday, we lost six people. As someone who was 20 years old, I didn’t know how to process this. I didn’t have faith, but, interestingly, I found myself wanting solitude in the church. I took myself to church and found peace; that was the first time I really prayed. From that point on, I explored Christianity and became really curious about it. Being in the military, I had many opportunities to meet other Christians, live alongside them, and learn how to live as a Christian in the military.

The AFCU has been pivotal to my faith journey; they have supported me from the very beginning. When I joined them in 2016, I was still new to faith and had a lot to learn. AFCU provided amazing mentors, people who have walked alongside me and guided me, both in my faith and in my service, and through life. Through many opportunities, they have developed me as a person and as a leader, and I have grown in my relationship with Jesus.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet many amazing women at AFCU women’s weekends who have become great friends, and I’ve also been involved in children’s and youth work, which I’ve become really interested in. I am so grateful and thankful to God for all the people who have supported me since I joined the AFCU. I couldn’t have done it without all the prayers and everyone who has prayed for me over the years.

I belong to an amazing Prayer Support Team (PST). They’ve supported me all the way through, and I now see them as grandparents. I get to speak to them whenever I need their support and help. They touch base regularly about what is going on in my life. They just want to be part of my journey. They are such wise and amazing people who point me to Jesus. I am so glad that I can lean on them. My PST leader happens to have been in the same service as me, so when I’m having issues with the service or don’t know what to do next, I can go and play it by them and ask, What would you do?

Everybody fits in the AFCU, whether you are young or old, curious, already have a hotline to God, or have never prayed before. Come and give it a go. Come to an AFCU event and see for yourself that you belong.”
