Offering Accountability to Those Mentoring Emerging Military Christian Leaders
Issachar is a new AFCU programme designed to encourage, enable and equip military Christians to live out their faith and become spiritual leaders in their communities.
Mentoring for spiritual growth and leadership is at the heart of the Issachar programme. This mentoring is underpinned by a network of spiritually mature and trusted pastoral supervisors who help mentors flourish.
As an Issachar supervisor, you will be selected for your trusted and proven maturity both as a Christian and as emotionally stable and reliable individual. You will be asked to commit to receive training via eight online meetings over a two-year period, to ensure consistency of approach and a thorough understanding of the nature of pastoral supervision as a reflective, formative and restorative process where the mentors can discuss their own mentoring practice in a confidential and supportive environment. In addition, you will need to organise regular supervision meetings with your assigned Issachar mentor. You will also be given dedicated pastoral support to help you reflect on your practice celebrating the highs and helping you to resolve any thorny issues.
As a supervisor, you are also welcome to opt-in to the wider Issachar programme which includes three Issachar weekends (March and November 2026 and June 2027), mentoring training evenings and the opportunity to also become one of our intercessors - our Spiritual i’s (eyes).
We believe that being an Issachar supervisor will be a deeply rewarding experience as well as providing the opportunity to learn many transferable skills which will last long after your time with Issachar finishes.
