I was serving in the Medical and Adjutant General’s Corps Manning and Record office in Chester in 1996 where we posted soldiers around the world to serve in different units, battalions and Regiments. I was the deputy Commander and a newly promoted Lieutenant Colonel. All those working for me were civilians and retired officers.
The Administrative Officer, whom I knew well and who was not a believer, was struggling in a very difficult marriage and her husband had recently moved out of the marital home. One Friday afternoon she came into the office crying and told me a story that the children’s hamster which was totally loved by her two young children was dying and in its last days; this was like the last straw which broke the camel’s back. She was devastated and did not know what to do. I sat looking at her and I heard a voice say to me clearly, “Pray for the hamster”.
I turned around to see where the voice was coming from but there was no one else in the small office; I knew it was God’s voice. I stuttered out, “Janet, would you like me to pray for the hamster?” And she immediately said, “Yes”. So, I prayed out loud to Jesus that he would heal the hamster and let him live. I then went away for the weekend and returned on Monday, not knowing what I was coming back to, to hear the hamster had recovered and tragedy was averted.
Janet knew the Lord had intervened and so did I!
